On site staff of the Belize Audubon Society (BAS) reported that the road was inundated during the heavy rains and flooding associated with Tropical Storm Arthur during the period May 29 – June 3. A recent site visit by a team from BAS headquarters noted significant erosion to the road.

The Belize Audubon Society will be conducting a site visit with the relevant Government agencies to formally record changes to the road and any resulting impacts to the lagoon. At the conclusion of this site visit, the Belize Audubon Society will be making recommendations on measures that should be undertaken to ensure that subsequent flooding do not cause the same impacts.

BAS will be monitoring the site and recording any changes brought about by inundation and the rains as the rainy season has begun and runs from June to August.

The Belize Audubon Society will continue to keep the public updated on this issue.
