Share Your Bird Sightings from Belize

Jun 3rd, 2008 by Scott | 1

Have you seen any noteworthy bird activity in Belize lately? The Belize Audubon Society hopes to deliver up-to-date information on sightings throughout the country via the Bird Watch section of our web-site. Our goal is to provide easy access to bird activity to all interested bird watchers and to document rare and unusual bird sightings in Belize.

With the new WordPress powered section of belizeaudubon.org, which you are now viewing, anyone can contribute their bird sightings to the Bird Watch. Interested persons can register on-line (the registration link is located in the right side-bar under the Meta heading). After entering a user name and e-mail address a password will be e-mailed to you. Once a personal user account has been approved you can begin sharing your observations from the field.

To stay updated with the latest bird activity please subscribe to our RSS feed.

Sorry for the late report but I didn’t know who to contact about rare sightings. According to the field guide Western Tanager is rare in Belize. I had one in Belize City on 12/3/08 in a fruiting palm along with several scissor-tailed flycatchers, catbirds, and golden-fronted woodpeckers. They were across from the marina parkinglot. I forget what the hotel name is but I think its owns the marina where people meet for scuba diving trips. I also had a Ruddy Quail-Dove on Moho Caye, Toledo District on 12/9/08. The book says they are not found away from the mainland. I had a Savannah Sparrow and Indigo Bunting on Hunting Caye in the Sapadilla Cayes on 12/10/08 too. Don’t knoiw if these are rare or not.
