BAS Turns Summer Laze into Fun-filled Rainforest, Wetlands, and Reefs Explorations!

Summer camps at the Belize Audubon Society this year offers something for everyone - even parents! This year, four camps offer explorers the opportunity to explore the rainforests of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary and St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park; wetlands of Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, and the reefs of Half-moon Caye and Blue Hole Natural Monuments. Camp dates are July 17th - 18th, July 25th, July 31st, and August 16th.  Apply Now!

Camp themes run the scope from traditional arts and crafts to photography to outdoors adventures. The first camp entitled “Lights, Camera, Action!” will be hosted at the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary on July 17th - 18th, for youths ages 11 - 17. The participants will go behind the scenes of environmental news which will involve role playing of environmental careers. Campers will also participate in a cultural exchange with the community members of Maya Center. Activities will involve slate carving and traditional Mayan dances.

“Birds of a feather flock together” will be the second camp and will be hosted at St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park on July 25th. This Day Camp for kids ages 6 - 11 will engage campers to foster bird appreciation by helping them to identify common birds and familiarization of the National Park. Activities will include hiking in the rainforest, cave tours, bird watching, arts & craft activities, and swimming.

On July 31st, it’s the watery world of the wetlands of Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary for “Wetlands - Wet & Wild Day Camp”. Youths ages 7 - 16 will be young scientist in the making where the kids will be conducting water quality testing, identification of critters in the lagoon, and birds that are around the area.

Reef Explorers Family Day Camp take campers to the rich, colorful reefs of Half - moon Caye and Blue Hole Natural Monuments. Participants will explore these two marine protected areas which are part of the Belize Barrier Reef System a World Heritage Site through recreational explorations led by the staff and volunteers of Belize Audubon Society.

All camps will be supervised by qualified BAS staff, Belizean volunteers and by teams from supporting organizations.
